How to switch your Peppol connection

  • Find your Peppol ID - Your Peppol ID is your companies unique identifier used for e-invoicing in the Peppol network.
  • Inform your current provider - Let your current access point provider know you plan to switch, they’ll need to release your Peppol ID.
  • Register with your new provider - Your new provider will activate your Peppol ID and get you up and running.

To ensure a smooth and well-supported transition, it's important to review the following fields in the SMP (Service Metadata Publisher) record:

  • AS4 endpoint URL - This is the web address where a participant's Access Point receives Peppol messages using the AS4 protocol.
  • ServiceDescription - Outlines the scope, capabilities, and any specific operational details of the Access Point.
  • TechnicalContactUrl - Provides a direct contact for technical support, essential for resolving issues quickly.
  • TechnicalInformationUrl - Links to technical documentation, developer resources, or integration guidelines.

These elements are crucial for a reliable migration. If they’re missing or incorrect, you may waste time searching a company’s website for generic contact details, slowing down your migration or troubleshooting efforts

Migration Scenarios in Belgium

In Belgium, two types of migrations are possible within the Peppol network.

The first is a migration between two commercial Access Points. In this case, you’ll need to notify your current provider of your intention to switch, ensure that your contract or subscription is properly ended, and coordinate the transition with your new provider, including updating your registration in the SMP.

The second option is a migration from Hermes to a commercial Access Point, which is significantly simpler. This process uses the Migration Token Collection Interface (MTCI), allowing for a fully automated transfer with no downtime and no required action from Hermes itself. As a result, moving away from Hermes is much easier than switching between commercial providers.

Important note about Hermes contact details:‍
In the SMP metadata, Hermes incorrectly lists the IxorDocs website as its technical reference. However, Hermes is operated by BOSA.
The correct contact information is:
  • Website: https://bosa.belgium.be/nl/applications/hermes
  • Email: hermes@bosa.fgov.be

Participant Lookup – Searching the Peppol Network

Be aware that the Peppol Directory is not always up to date. For reliable, real-time data on participants and their Access Points, use a trusted SMP lookup tool or consult your solution provider

A participant in the Peppol or eDelivery network is any organization (company, government agency, institution) that is registered to send or receive electronic documents like invoices or orders. Each participant has a unique Participant Identifier, often based on their VAT or company number, and is connected to an Access Point that manages the document exchange on their behalf.

If you're unsure how to proceed with a migration, please contact the provider of the application or platform you are currently using. They will be able to guide you based on your specific setup and ensure the transition is handled correctly.
